By far the most popular type of pendant, down lighting pendants direct light downwards by using open bottom shades to minimize the amount of light that is projected upwards towards the ceiling.

Up / Down Lighting

Up / Down Lighting fixtures are often open-ended drum shade pendants where minimal light is directed outwards but instead is directed both up and down.

Up Lighting

Uncommon in pendant lighting. Up lighting pendants use a shade to direct light towards the ceiling.
