You can also purchase an extended mount for exceptionally high ceilings, ranging in size from 6 inches to 120 inches.
Hugger ceiling fans. Hugger ceiling fans feature a flush mount — one that anchors directly against the ceiling without a downrod. Hugger fans are commonly called low-profile ceiling fans, and they're best in rooms with ceilings lower than 8 feet and ceilings where adding a light fixture to the fan would make the entire unit too low. Low-profile ceiling fans don't move as much air as hanging fans do, but they make up for it by providing a sleek, smooth aesthetic.
Outdoor ceiling fans. Outdoor ceiling fans are designed specifically for use outdoors, such as on covered porches and other spaces without walls.

Wet and Damp Ratings on Ceiling Fans

If you're using a ceiling fan in luxury bathroom or another potentially humid location, like the kitchen, you'll need to choose one that's been UL listed with a "Damp" rating. If you're using one outdoors, you have to pick one with a UL "Wet" rating. These ratings tell you that the motor is sealed and moisture-resistant, that the housing is rust-resistant, and that the blades can handle moisture or direct contact with water.

Number of Fan Blades

Bulb Type

Some ceiling fan models are designed to work with specific bulb types. The most common include: LED, Fluorescent, Compact Fluorescent, Incandescent, Halogen, and Xenon/Krypton

Fan Control Type

Controlling your fan is just as important as the way it looks. The most common type of fan controls include:
Pull chain, which requires you to stand below the fan and pull the chain to adjust its speed or turn it on and off.
Remote control, which allows you to control the fan from any location the frequency can reach. These are the most convenient types of fan controls.
Wall control. Many fans feature wall controls that allow you to adjust the speed and turn them on and off.
